Have you ever asked yourself what you would do if you won the lottery? It’s fun to envision, isn’t it?
Well, if I ever won, or became insanely wealthy, I’d want to play Santa Claus all year round. I figure there’s no reason why I can’t start now on a much smaller scale.
I often find myself marathoning videos of internet personalities gifting Twitch streamers, waiters and waitresses, pizza delivery drivers, homeless people and others with crazy amounts of money. The genuine reactions are priceless, especially when it happens to someone in need.
The only problem I have with this is the exploitative nature. While donors are no doubt being extremely generous, a lot of them are doing it for views and subscribers, and some even have sponsors footing the bill.
Perhaps the beneficiary of the gift doesn’t want to be on an internet video, but feels compelled because of the generosity of the donor. I know that’s how I would feel.
I don’t want to put anyone’s video or image on the internet, at least not without consent. I’m also an introvert, so I don’t want to create and publish videos that include me either. I want to give back in a fun way, but not by interacting with some dramatic in-person reveal.
I’m happy with pseudonymity.
